Anyone that knows me will tell you that I have never been a huge fan of pre-paid cards. Even though pre-paid cards have been advertised as a great alternative to a regular checking account and some people still want to use them, I have always believed that it is better to get a checking account when possible. Since there are so many banking options out there for those reported to chexsystems, there is really no reason to use a pre-paid card.
The main reason I don't like pre-paid card accounts is because generally there are many fees involved. Pre-paid cards have become alot better than they used to be years ago. Less fees, more features like bill pay, pay pal transfers, direct deposit and even options to have your tax return e-filed to them have made them more popular than in past years. Some people still insist on using them. When banks are charging large overdraft fees, it is understandable.
I am asked to suggest one all the time. Because of the popularity, I would suggest one of the following:
The great thing about this card for some right now is that you can have your tax return e-filed to it.
